W. Earl "Snag" Garland

Earl “Snag” Garland, 86, of Rocky Gap, VA passed away on December 20, 2022 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. He was on born on January 23, 1936 in Bluefield, WV to the late Violet Lucas and Tanner Benjamin Garland Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Angelia Garland; an infant son, Donny Jason Garland; a daughter, Pamela Garland; a grandson, Joshua Surber; and one brother, Tanner Benjamin Garland Jr. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Air-force. He was a member of the Princeton, WV DAV as well as the American Legion of Bluefield, WV Post #9. He was also a long-time member of the Bluefield Elks Lodge #269, and a member of 30+ years of the Bluefield Eagles Aerie #857 where he spent most of his Friday nights with good friends. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Gloria (Brad) Zelinski, Richard (Eilene) Garland, Danny (Jenny) Pruett, Samantha (Austin) Edwards. A sister; JoAnne Garland Philpott. 9 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV on Tuesday December 27, 2022 at 10:30am with Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Graveside service will be Wednesday December 28, 2022 at 10:30am at Monte Vista Cemetery in Bluefield, WV where friends and family will serve as pallbearers and military graveside rights will be conducted by the Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
