Vivian Virginia Comer

Vivian Virginia Myers Comer, 89, of Bluefield passed peacefully at her home on May 7th, 2024. Born June 21st, 1934, in Horsepen, Va, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Jennie Myers. She was the last of the 7 children of the Myers family.

She was married to the late Edward Lee Comer Jr. for fifty-nine years. Viv was a proud military wife, mother, grandmother, and Gold Star mother. She was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was affectionately known to many as Mamaw Viv.  Viv was fiercely independent, loved her family deeply, and was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Thompson Chapel for 56 years.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons James Markle Comer and Ronald Edward Comer, four brothers; Clarence Myers, Woodrow Myers, Robert Myers, and William Myers, and two sisters; Mildred Myers Helmandollar and Rose Myers Hendrick.

Left to cherish her memory are her only daughter and two sons and their spouses, Patricia Comer Dobbins and Retired SFC Rick Dobbins, Retired CW5 Rick Comer and Kim Comer, Shawn and Marsha Comer; and daughters in law, Linda Bowling and Donna Comer; ten grandchildren, Shannon Comer, Angie Comer Justice(Ron), Jessica Comer(Erin), Richard Dobbins(Monica), Jonathan Dobbins(Molly), Laney Comer Yates(Jerrod), Nikki Thomason, Morgan Comer-Miller(Carson), Madison Comer Pettrey(Gavin), and Clayton Comer(Shannon); eleven great grandchildren, Maeley Miller(Tanner), Hannah Shrewsbury(Nick), Haley Justice, Hudson Dobbins, Colton Dobbins, Peyton Justice, Easton Dobbins, Oliver Comer-Miller, Brynn Dobbins, Grace Yates, and Archie Comer-Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special family and friends.

Although we know she is no longer with us, it brings comfort knowing that she has finally “gone home”, as she would put it, to be with the Lord.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, with pallbearers for the service being, Richard Dobbins, Jonathan Dobbins, Clayton Comer, Gavin Pettrey, Carson Comer-Miller, and Jimmy Simon.

A visitation will be held, Friday, May 10, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers Viv has requested donations be made to Thompson Chapel, Mary’s Cradle, and the Bluefield Union Mission.
