Virginia Byrd McGrady, 93, of 315 Courthouse Road, Princeton, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday August 21st, 2021 at Princeton Health Care Center following a long illness.
Born on June 4th, 1928 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Romney and Belva Gregory Byrd. She had been a resident of Newark, Delaware since the early 1950’s before returning to Mercer County in 2013. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Newark, Delaware before relocating back to West Virginia.
She was a Bramwell High School Alumni, class of 1945. Following her high school graduation, she met her future husband Barton McGrady. Virginia and Bart were married in Columbia Falls, Montana on August 3rd, 1950.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband, Barton McGrady (2005), and all three (3) of her brothers : Bruce Byrd (1982), Fred Byrd (1991), Claude Byrd (2003), and her only sister Mary Lou Sutphin (2019).
Survivors include nieces and nephews: J. Paul Sutphin of Bluefield, West Virginia, Glenn Edward Byrd (South Carolina), Fred Byrd, Jr. (North Carolina), Joe Byrd (North Carolina), Linda Byrd Mahon (West Virginia), Greg Byrd (North Carolina) and Gail Byrd White (Virginia).
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Cravens - Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Pastor Jim Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Compassus, Princeton, West Virginia.
