Rev. Virgil Huston Harden, Sr., 85, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 at WVU Princeton Community Hospital, after a long battle with several health issues. Virgil passed away while surrounded by his family whom he loved more than life as well as the Lord.
Virgil was born in Max Meadows, VA on December 31, 1939 to Howard Cassell Harden and Susie Kegley Harden. Virgil was a 46 year resident of McComas, WV and took pride in being baptized in the Baptist Church and ordained in the Church of God. Virgil retired at the age of 78 where he had touched many lives teaching Electrical Engineering at Bluefield State College. He held multiple engineering degrees and was a jack of all trades.
Virgil was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and his precious granddaughter, Jessica Louise Harden Smith. He is survived by his wife, Mildren Harden; his daughters, Deborah Connell (Ben), Delma Harden (Groves Thompson), Kathy Bowers (Stephen); two sons, Cassell Harden (Staci) and Virgil Harden Sr. (Janet); He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and an abundance of great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Elder Lonnie Mullins and Elder Kenneth Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA where Patrick Akers, Huston Harden, Collin Trexier, Jacob Smith, Joshua Smith, Isaiah Justice, and Adam Justice will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Harden family.
