Veronica Daugherty

Veronica Sue Daugherty (Ronnie) age 70 of Abbs Valley VA passed away Sunday September 17, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  Born August 2, 1947 in Abbs Valley.  She was the daughter of the late James Howard and Betty Poe Daugherty.  Ronnie was a graduate of Pochantas High School; she received a Bachlor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Science Degree in Library Science from Radford University. Ronnie was a dedicated teacher in the Tazewell County School System for 35 years. She was appointed to the Tazewell County Library Board and served on the Board for 31 years. Ronnie was a dedicated member of the Boissevain Baptist Church and was the Director of the Choir and Pianist. A member of the Bluefield VA Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #102. She served as Worthy Matron 1979, 1985, and 2002. In 2003, she was a Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star to the State of Minnesota. In 2004 she was appointed Grand Organist of the Grand Chapter of VA. Ronnie is survived by her Aunt Helen Louise Daugherty Richardson of Roanoke, VA. She is survived by cousins, John Daugherty of Pasadena MD, James Daugherty Bluefield VA, William Daugherty of Celebration Fl, Jeanne Stephens of Fort Meade FL. Also, Michael Poe Bluefield WV, Charles Poe Athens WV, Kathy, Sherri and Kerri Poe of Bluefield WV. Special friends Linda Boone, Mike and Karen Hale, Leroy and Brenda Bowman. Special College friends Sue Ellen, Opal, Pat and Annette. Visitation will be Friday evening September 22, 2017 from 6 - 8 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Bluewell WV. The Eastern Star Chapter #102 will conduct an Eastern Star Service at 7:30pm. The funeral will be Saturday September 23 at 11:00 am at Craven-Shires Funeral Home Bluewell WV with Rev. Reginald Blakewood and Rev. Danny Shortridge officiating the service. Pallbearers will be Michael Hale, Leroy Bowman, Eugene Hilton, David Hilton, Harold Chinsolo and Donald Hodock. The family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Boissevain Baptist Church, PO Box 187, Boissevain, VA 24606.
