Vernon Randolph Sexton, Sr., 92, of Bluewell, West Virginia passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
Vernon was born on October 26, 1927 in Pageton to the late Gwyn and Ethel Taylor Sexton. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served his country proudly for twenty years. Upon his retirement from the military he worked as a bus driver and was also a coal miner for Consol. He was an active member of the Princeton Church of God for many years. He was most known throughout the community for singing and playing the harmonica. If you did not know him, you had probably heard him singing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Bell Blankenship Sexton.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Fowler of Bluefield. Kay (Larry) Hackney of Fredericksburg, VA, and Janet (Richard) Wooldridge of Bluefield, WV; sons, Randy (Lisa) Sexton of Princeton, and David (Lisa) Sexton of Princeton; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Rev. F. D. (Shirley) Sexton of Beckley, WV, and sister, Frances McDaniel of Radford, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Princeton Church of God with Rev. F. D. Sexton and Rev. Fred Farley officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the church, from 11:00-1:00, prior to services.
