Velvie Lee Cooley, 85, of Bluefield, WV, passed peacefully with her family by her side, Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Princeton Health Care Center in Princeton, WV.
Born February 17, 1938, in Montcalm, WV, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Gracie Ida Dunford Webb. Velvie was a resident of Brushfork for 54 years and attended Deliverance Temple. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bramwell, WV; she was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Velvie was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Cooley, Sr.; son, Rickey Cooley; grandson, Jason Elswick; and brothers, Frazier Webb, James Webb, and Edgar Webb.
Those left to cherish Velvie’s memory are her sons, George W. Cooley, Jr. and wife Tammi of Bluefield, WV, and Christopher A. Cooley of Highpoint, NC; daughter, Pamela C. Elswick and husband David of North Tazewell, VA; sisters, Edna Vaughn of Montcalm, WV, Bonnie Gills of Rock, Wv, Brenda Shoemaker of Bufort, SC, and Dollie Burns of Montcalm, WV; grandchildren, Justus Cooley, Blair Cooley, and Angela Presley; and great grandchildren, Bennett and Ryan Presley and Jaxon and Tiffany Cooley.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Omar Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, with George Cooley, Jr., Christopher Cooley, David Elswick, Blair Cooley, Terry Helmandollar, John Gills, and Justin Cooley serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call one hour prior to services from 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home.
