Bramwell- On April 8th, 2017, Velma Nicatie Goins, 95 years young, left this world to join the love of her life, Howard P. Goins, on what would have been their 79th anniversary! She often said she would meet him on the other side of the River Jordan… Theirs was a special love, and their only child, Perry Roger Goins, was blessed with that loving ability as well… Nicatie was born on January 18, 1922 to Theodosia Frances Elmore White and James Dayton White. She was a lifetime member of the Bramwell Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. Her life was spent mostly as a loving devoted wife and mother and around mid-life she went to work as a cook at Bramwell High School from where she retired. After a fall in her home, she moved on to Westwood Center where she was loved tremendously and received excellent care from the entire staff without exception. Left to cherish her memory is her only child, Roger Goins of Bramwell, her only living sibling, Madge Smith of Alabama. She has three grandchildren, Roger Dean Goins (Sandy) of Bramwell, Alinda Goins Shaffer of Winston-Salem, NC, and Perry Dale Goins of Princeton. She has five grandchildren, Robby, Brandon, Misty, Corey and Chelsea. She has seven great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter. Nicatie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard, her sweet daughter in law, Violet; and her parents, Dayton and Frances White. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and four sisters. She loved all of her family with a passion. She has nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she loved too, including the staff at Westwood. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Joey Ryan officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Monday from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com We end with one of her favorite sayings, “Sometimes it’s hard to remember, sometimes it’s hard to forget, but don’t forget to remember, to remember not to forget”… Godspeed.
