Tommy Ray Fowler, 81, born June 11th 1941 at #5 Hill Thorpe W.V., passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and family at Princeton Community Hospital on Monday May 15th. Tommy led a long and fulfilling life working in the mining industry for 37 years and owning and operating Fowlers Market for 40 years. He was also the owner and operator of Brinkley Coal Company in Black Wolf W.V.
Tommy is survived by his children Michel Fowler of Thorpe W.V., Lisa and Jesse Miller of Bluefield V.A., and his siblings Betty Camden, Shirley and Bishop F.D. Sexton, Sylvia and Bobby Phillips, Virginia Jones, Ralph and Kathy Fowler, Jairus Fowler, Jimmy Fowler, Sue and Boyd Fowler JR., Kenneth Ray and Cricket Fowler; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Boyd Fowler and Hattie May Goins, his wife Joyce Fowler, his children Teresa Butler and Evan Fowler, siblings Ruth Elizabeth, Barbara Music, and Billy Fowler.
Throughout the duration of Tommy's life he loved communicating with truckers over his CB while in his store, going to flea markets, playing cards with his friends, and spending time with his family.
Pallbearers will be Johnothan Nunn, Ralph Fowler, Jairus Fowler, Keith Sexton, Allen Nichols, and Andrew Miller. Tommy would want everyone to “keep your chin up”, his mother’s favorite expression.
The family will receive friends at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell at 1pm on Friday, May 19th, 2023. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with the Bishop F.D. Sexton (Mickey) and Rev. Omar Burns officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Fowler family.
