Tim Largen, 54, of Bluefield, WV passed away at his home on March 9th, 2022.
Tim was born on January 1st, 1968, to Ted and Mary Largen in Martinsville, VA. After graduating from Drewry Mason High School in 1986, he went on to attend Elon College, Clinch Valley College of UVA and completed his studies at Concord University. Tim was employed by the City of Alexandria, VA until relocating from Dale City, VA to Bluefield in 2004. He was then employed by Tazewell County Public Schools ending his career as a teacher and coach upon retirement.
Tim had three passions in life: his children, baseball and the University of North Carolina Tarheels. Tim considered his children, Jackson and Emma, his greatest purpose and achievement. Being present and supporting them was of the utmost importance to him. His strength and tenacity over the last few years came from the love he had for his family. Tim spent his youth on the many sports fields of Ridgeway, VA and then played baseball for Elon and Clinch Valley Colleges. He continued to play ball in his twenties and thirties through competitive church league softball in Northern Virginia. Tim’s tenure on the ball field continued by coaching baseball for the youth of Bluefield, VA and Graham Middle School’s football and girls’ basketball teams. Even when he could no longer coach, those who played for him still called him “Coach Largen” and thanked him for his guidance. The accolades he received as a ball player paled in comparison to those expressions of gratitude and witnessing the future successes of his former players. Anyone Tim encountered, he greeted and left them with a smile and positive word. He never complained about his health and told them he was happy to be here for another day.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents.
Tim is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years Cynthia and daughter Emma Largen of the home; son Jackson Largen of Providence, RI; brother Wayne (Ginger) Largen of Abingdon, VA; nephews Matthew (Logan) Largen of Greensboro, NC and Christopher Largen of Abingdon, VA; in-laws Ronald and Dorothy Crabtree of Bluefield, WV; sister-in law Elizabeth Crabtree and niece Sophie Deal of Bluefield, WV along with aunts Lula Massey of Bassett, VA and Sue Mathis of Cadiz, KY. Tim is also survived by his daily companion Liberty of the home.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 9th, 2022, at 2 pm in the Graham High School Gymnasium. The family requests those attending wear University of North Carolina apparel or colors in order to honor Tim’s lifelong passion for the Tarheels.
