T. A. "Buddy" Warden, Jr.

BLUEWELL-T.A. "Buddy" Warden, Jr., 93, of Christiansburg, VA, and formerly of Warden Avenue (Bluewell), Bluefield, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg.

Born on May 9, 1924 in Nemours, Mercer County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Tom and Eva Slusser Warden of Montcalm. He was a graduate of McComas High School Class of 1942. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Calvert APA-32. After World War II he returned to Montcalm and worked for his father at Princeton Feed & Supply. He worked at Reid Boice Tire & Tread in Bluefield and then returned to work for his father at Warden's Market at Bluewell in 1952, where he was co-owner and manager of the market until 1992. He served for 8 years on the West Virginia Real Estate Commission and six years on the Mercer County Commission. He was a member of the Graham Christian Church in Bluefield, Virginia, where he served as Elder for several years. He was Past Master of the Bailey Lodge 137, Past High Priest Bramwell Chapter, Past Commander of Bramwell Commandry, Member of the Scottish Right 33°, Member of Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston, West Virginia and a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was Past Commander of the VFW Post 3112, Member of the American Legion Post # 9, and Past President of the Bluewell Lions Club. He was also a founding member of the Bluewell Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, where he served as Chief for decades.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Anna Crane and a brother, Jimmy U. Warden.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Louise Hopkins Warden of the home; daughters, Linda Warden Baldwin and husband Pete of Claytor Lake, Virginia; Cindy Warden Haddox of Roanoke, VA; sons, Thomas Warden, III and wife Vickie of Claytor Lake, VA; Steve Warden and wife Gretta of Vero Beach, FL; three granddaughters, Angelique Baldwin, Toni Baldwin and Emilie Warden; four grandsons William Baldwin, Thomas Warden IV, Michael Haddox, Louie Haddox, Jonah Haddox; 11 great grandchildren; brother, W.L. Warden and wife Brenda of Green Valley, Bluefield.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Gary Lyons, pastor of Graham Christian Church in Bluefield, VA officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where the Baily Masonic Lodge 137 AF&AM will conduct graveside rites and serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Thursday, prior to services, from 11:00-1:00 at the funeral home.

your favorite charity.
