Sylvia Oster

Sylvia Oster, beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend died peaceably in her home on June 19, 2022, in Bluefield, WV at the age of 85.

She is survived by husband of 66 years, George; children Tim (Cindy) Oster of Fort Worth, TX, Ricky (Michelle) Oster of Knoxville, TN, Cheryl (Michael) Belcher of Rolesville, NC and Jeff (Donna) Oster of Bluefield, VA; her siblings, Bobby Rotenberry, Cleveland, OH, Raymond Rotenberry, Burke Mountain, WV, Doris Powlak of Delray Beach, FL and Judy Lambert of Bluefield, WV.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Basil and Virgie Rotenberry, Burke Mountain, WV; brothers, Mack, Jimmy and Joe Rotenberry and sister Ethel Formica.

Sylvia was born on March 7, 1937 in Keystone, WV and after marriage to George in 1956, resided in Ashland, WV for over 60 years before moving to Bluefield in 2017.   She was an active and dedicated member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Bluefield, VA and formerly a member of Prosperity Methodist Church while a resident of Ashland.  She was postmaster at Ashland for 4 yrs and a sales associate at Belk from 1982 until her retirement in 2004.  She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was driven by her faith in Jesus and impacted many lives by expressing love, compassion, and support to others.

The funeral will be on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Bill Lykins and Rev Tim Oster officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with grandsons, Daniel Oster, Derrick Oster, Christian Oster, Jonathan Oster and Stephen Belcher serving as pallbearers.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church at 401 Virginia Ave, Bluefield, VA 24605 or The American Cancer Society at American Cancer Society P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741 in Sylvia's name.
