Rufus Shrader

August 26, 1938 — January 16, 2018

Rufus Shrader, 79, of Hurricane Ridge Road, Bluefield, WV, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday,
January 16, 2018, surrounded by his family, at the home of his daughter, Creatha "Sissy" Walker, after a
4 year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was a resident of Bluefield for the past 6 years, having
previous lived in Pageton, WV.
Born on August 26, 1938, in Iaeger, WV, he was the son of the late Sam & Mae Shrader. He was a retired
coal miner with a total of 37 years of service, with 24 years being with US Steel.
He was a faithful member of the Harbor Light Baptist Church in Glenwood, WV, until his illness no longer
allowed him to attend.
He was loved by all that knew him. He never met a stranger and was someone that knew a little about a
lot of things.
He enjoyed reading his Bible and talking to others about the Lord. He enjoyed gardening and hunting, as
well as the stories that went along with it. He was the type of person to let you know and show you how
much he cared for you. He was a true friend to many.
He was a loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson; Brett Shrader, brothers; Clarence,
James & Jake Shrader, and sisters; Myrtle Shrader, Martha Bailey, Mary Kennedy and Ella Jean Riffe.
Sisters in law, Irene, Inis and Donna Shrader and brother in laws, Willie Osborne, Elias Bailey and Luther
Kennedy.
He leaves behind his wife, Oreatha Shrader of Denver, NC, two sons, three daughters, seven
grandchildren and one great grandson.

Cecil "Ray" Shrader and wife, Teresa of Maiden, NC
Daughters:
Creatha "Sissy" Walker and husband, Rodney of Maiden, NC
Susan Davis and husband, Mark of Denver, NC
Tracie Walker and husband, Brian of Denver, NC
Grandchildren:
Justin Walker and wife, Emily, Abby Shrader, Josh Shrader and wife, Morgan, Andy Davis, Kellie Jo "Kal"
Walker, Maddux and Braxtun Walker and great grandson, McCoy Walker.
He also leaves behind his brothers; Glen & Raymond "Junior" Shrader and sisters; Mildred Osborne, Lucy
Bailey and husband, Earl and Alice Shrader. Sister in law; Daisy Shrader and several nieces and nephews.
Rufus was blessed to have his special friends, Carl "Tater" Carter and Danny and Dana Smith, who would
always call and stop by to visit and his hunting buddies, Jimmy Moore and Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.rn. Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral
Home in Bluewell, WV, with the Reverends Robert Lane and Joel Lane officiating. Interment will follow
at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Bluewell. Pallbearers will be Rodney Walker, Mark Davis, Brian
Walker, Justin Walker, Josh Shrader and Andy Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Maddux, Braxtun and
McCoy Walker. Friends may visit Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral
Home in Bluewell.
