Ruby Alice Lester Marshall, 92, of Hemphill, WV, entered into her eternal home peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 and heard the words “well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.” Born May 10, 1929 in Marytown, WV, she was a daughter of the late John and Virgie Kennedy Lester. In addition to her parents, John and Virgie, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, George Marshall; sisters, Lydia Thompson, Catherine Lane, Linda Mullins, and Kizzie Rose, Rinda Mullins, and Martha Mullins; brothers, Alvis and Lonnie Lester; two grandsons, Judd Surface and Gary Baldwin; two sons-in-law, Randall Baldwin, Sr. and Eugene Hicks.
Those left to cherish Ruby’s memory are her eight children, Walter (Sheila) Marshall of Dudley, NC, Kathleen Smith of Welch, WV, Nancy Baldwin of Goldsboro, NC, George (Gloria) Marshall of Hemphill, WV, James Marshall of the home, John (Debbie) Marshall of Goldsboro, NC, Mary Hicks and Linda (Steve) Hicks, both of Capels, WV. She had 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She also had several nieces and nephews that were special to her.
Ruby was a homemaker and seamstress. Her whole life was dedicated to her Lord and her family. She was a member of Capels Church of God for many years where she also served as a Sunday School teacher. In her earlier years, she had a radio and TV program called “Harvest Time” where she proclaimed the Lord Jesus as the only way to Heaven. Ruby also worked with the Salvation Army when they were located here. In her later years, she had to slow down but she didn’t stop. She would witness in the waiting room at the Doctor’s office and she had a phone ministry. Ruby would pray for anyone in need.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, October 1, 2021 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald Felts officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where Kurt Hicks, Lil Steven Hicks, Lil Randall Baldwin, Jesse Marshall, Shawn Oyler, Alex Oyler, Jamie Comer, and Kenny Oyler will serve as pallbearers. Alternate pallbearers will be Matt Whaley and Jose Soto.
