Psalms 116:15 — "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" Roy L. Camden, 85, of Skygusty, WV crossed over into his Heavenly home Sunday, February 20,2022 surrounded by his loving family who will miss him dearly. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend. There are no words to express the loss of such a great part of our family. Born March 11, 1936, in Kimball, WV he was the son of the late Harry and Ellie Camden. Roy was a proud veteran where he served his country as Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps for twenty-one years with two tours to Vietnam. During his service he earned several military decorations including: The Navy Commendation Medal with combat "V", The Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, The Good Conduct Metal with five stars, The National Defense Service Metal, The Vietnam Service Metal with five stars, The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and The Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a retired construction worker and was a member of the Conklintown Church of God. Roy loved The Lord and served him for many years. He was an avid reader and cherished the times spent with his family. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Castle and Delores Garris. Four brothers: Harry Camden, George Sexton, Max Camden, Eugene Camden, and Charles Camden. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife and absolute true love of 38 years, Betty Fowler Camden, Son: Frank (Melanie) Camden of Huntington Beach, CA, four daughters: Diana (Dave) Nachreiner of Crossville, TN, Tammy (Arlie) Roark of Leckie, WV, Denise (Gerald) Prater of Skygusty, WV and Kelly (Michael) Warren of Skygusty, WV; stepchildren Ayako Maemori of Carson, CA, Hidebou Maemori of Belleville, IL. Grandchildren: Brandon (Kayla) Day of Skygusty, WV, Jessica (Casey) Lester of Skygusty, WV, Kristen (Donovan) Poore of Pageton, WV, Kaitlyn Roark of Princeton, WV, Adam Roark (Crystal) of Northfork, WV, Aaron Roark of Leckie, WV, Jaden and Connor Camden of Huntington Beach, CA, Atreides Nachreiner of Crossville, TN, Lucrisha Harrison of Lexington, NC and Jack Acosta of Palm Desert, CA. Great Grandchildren: Hayden, Hunter, Isabella and Savannah Day, Braxton Farley, Carlie Roark, Tanner and Wrenly Lester, and Nevaeh Poore. Two "adopted" granddaughters: Liberty Harman of Skygusty, WV who helped his family a great deal in caring for him and Tabbie Roark of Mullins, WV. Each was loved so much by Pawpaw Roy and held such a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind one brother Carl (Kay) Camden of Forest, VA, several nieces, nephews and his extended Fowler family who meant the world to him. We would like to thank his hospice and VA nurses for all they have done in taking such wonderful care of our dear loved one. A special thank you to his favorite hospice nurse Meagan Burks. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm on Wednesday, February 23 ,2022 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. F.D Sexton and Rev Jerry Graham officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Pallbearers will be son in laws and grandsons: Gerald Prater, Michael Warren, Brandon Day, Casey Lester, Donovan Poore, Adam Roark, Aaron Roark and Aaron Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers are Arlie Roark and Bobby Phillips. Masks are encouraged for those who attend. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Camden family.
