Roland "Wayne" Belcher, Sr.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7   Roland “Wayne” Belcher, Sr. of Bastian, VA died October 18, 2017. He was born on November 25, 1936 to the late Elsie and Leonard Belcher of McComas, WV.   He served his country proudly in the Navy. Wayne was self-employed with Belcher’s Hydraulic Hose until his retirement. He was a member of the Lions Club, Shriners, Masonic Lodge and the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church. He served over the years in many roles and on numerous boards. Wayne loved hunting, fishing and golfing with friends and family. He was always happy and whistling a tune. Wayne owned Wolf Creek Golf Course and holds the record of a hole in one on #14, a par 4 at 300 yards. Wayne loved spending time with his family and he never met a stranger. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was known by many and loved by all.    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Downs, Margaret McGhee, Mamie Ballentine and Lillian Wolfe; four brothers, Leonard “Ray” Belcher, James Belcher, Donald Belcher and Eugene Belcher.   He is survived by his wife of over 60 glorious years, Brenda Scott Belcher of the home; a sister Janice Winner of Berlin, N.J.; son, Roland Wayne Belcher, Jr. and wife Patti of Bluewell, WV; daughters, Lelia Nave and husband Bart of Gray, TN and Karen Dennis and husband Daryl of Wytheville, VA; grandchildren, Johnathon Belcher, Bradley Belcher, Zachary Nave, Brandon Nave, Lauren Hyder, Erin Dennis, Kristin Dennis, Kara Dennis and Tyler Dennis; great-grandchildren, Abram Nave, Lelia Mosely Nave, Zayden Hyder and Ella Hyder. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He will be greatly missed.   Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral  Home in Bluewell with a 12:00 – 2:00 visitation before the service. Rev. Rodney Lawson will officiate.  Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell where military graveside honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Norman Blankenship, John Zackaweja, Jim Simon, Bill Peery, Mike McGreevy, Ward Baily, Rex Hale and Carl Duty. The family is accepting online condolences at www.cravens-shires.com. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church Building Fund, North Scenic Highway, Rocky Gap, VA 24366.   The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV is in charge of arrangements.
