Robert Allen Surface

Robert Allen Surface, of Rock Camp, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the age of 92. Born on May 19, 1928 in Sandlick, WV, he was the son of the late Giles Robert and Ethel Belcher Surface. Robert, also known as Robert Allen and Bob, retired from GTE in Bluefield, WV after 34 years of service. After retirement, he spent the next 20 plus years farming at his home place in Monroe County. Bob was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen King, Maxine Shrader, and Betty Barnette; and two brothers, Danny Surface and Roger Surface. Survivors include his wife, Betty Carter Surface of Rock Camp, WV; two sons, Robert R. “Bobby” Surface of Rock Camp, WV, and Robert A. “Rusty” Surface II and wife Gwen of Buckhannon, WV; two daughters, Jane Martin and husband Jim of Sandlick, WV, and Sherree Farmer of Sandlick, WV; stepson, Shannon Hall and wife Teresa of Salem, VA; brother, David Surface and wife Connie of Bluewell, WV; special niece, Brenda Shrader; also left to cherish his memory are eleven grandchildren, Robbie Surface, Sara Surface, Josh Cicero, Logan Shannon, Wyatt Surface, Ron Martin, Amy Martin, Katy Martin, Jeremiah Farmer, Derrick Hall, and Adrianna Hall; and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating.
