Robert "Bobby" Thomas McCoy, 43, of Gary, WV, was born on July 12, 1981, at Bluefield Community Hospital in West Virginia. He was the son of Robert "Robbie" E. Lee from Hanover and Elizabeth "Libby" Gay McCoy from Welch. Bobby is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bobby E. and Violet Lee; his uncle, Jamie McCoy; his cousins, Barbie and Jason Carter; Payton Ball; and his best friend, Shaun Wellman.
Remembering him fondly are his maternal grandparents, Carl and Elsie McCoy, and his beloved son, Zachary Thomas McCoy, who brought him immense pride. He is also survived by his sister, Desiree (Joe) Wygal, and his brother, James McCoy. Additionally, he leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Randy "Jay," Kalee, and Averi Steele; Kaleb Wygal; Natalee, Noah, Elijah, and Emilee McCoy.
Bobby has several uncles and aunts, including Tony McCoy, Emma (Junior) Ratliff, Angie (Eric) Lester, and Tammy McCoy. His cousins are Daniel (Jamie) McCoy, Anthony (Brittany) Sexton, Savannah McCoy, Leona (Anthony) Steele, Brittany Reed, Terri (Josh) Williams, Bradley McCoy, Cole Lester, Ashton (Leigh) Cline, and Autumn (Shon) Toler. In addition to his relatives, Bobby is also close to several special family friends, including Michelle Hale, Randy Steele, Eddie George, his pool community, and many others. He was particularly grateful to Gail (Ruth) Webb for being like his second father and mother.
Bobby was cherished by many and always brought joy to those around him. He was a skilled pool shark and could often compete in Las Vegas tournaments. Throughout his life, he explored a variety of careers, including serving as a Welch City Police Officer, owning and operating a golf course, and managing a bar billiards establishment. He also worked as a long-haul driver and was a great car salesman.
In recent years, Bobby's health declined, leading to extended hospital stays. Complications from pneumonia resulted in sepsis, which became a significant concern in his final days. Bobby passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and determination that inspires us all.
A service will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, on Saturday, March 8th. A viewing for immediate family will take place at noon, with an open viewing for others from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The service will start at 1:30 PM, officiated by Michael Tye, followed by burial at McCoy Cemetery in Coon Branch, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
