Robert Greene Honaker

Robert Greene “Bob” Honaker, resident of Bluewell, WV, died March 17, 2022. He was 94 years old. Bob was born January 5, 1928, to Luticia Mae Belcher and Charles Robert Honaker. He is survived by his wife, Naida Meadows Honaker; a son:  Terry, also of Bluewell; a daughter: Lori Beth (Todd) Satterfield, of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister, and a son, Randy.

After attending Spanishburg High School, he was stationed in Germany with the Third Armored Division of the US Army as part of peacekeeping troops during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Bob attended Moler Barber College in Cincinnati, Ohio where he learned the skills needed to come back to his beloved mountains and open his own barbershop in Bluewell. Bob’s Barber Shop was in operation for 40+ years and was a place Bob could do what he loved most, converse with neighbors. He poured his heart into his community by serving on numerous committees at Bluewell UMC, leading a scout troop, acting as a PTA officer at Bluewell Elementary, and by holding longtime membership as a Mason.

Having many hobbies, Bob was never one for downtime. Besides the barber shop, he also owned a clothing store, a pawn shop, a dog grooming shop, and his own barn where he took care of horses, goats, roaming doves, and too many dogs to count. Throughout his lifetime, he dabbled in scissor sharpening, wood working, gardening, leather crafting, and ear piercing among other things. Bob was always a man with a plan including dozens of patents waiting to happen. He enjoyed traveling both for fun and service such as a mission trip to rebuild houses in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Bob made lifelong friends of anyone with whom he came into contact, including an Amish family that he met during his travels. They spent a great deal of time together sharing their diverse cultures.

Friends and family of Bob know that he leaves a hole in the community that can never be filled. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral Services will be held at Bluewell United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 12:00-1:00PM with a funeral at 1:00PM. Rev. Steve Rector will officiate. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
