Richard Lee Shrader, age 85, of Countryside Road, Princeton, WV (Maple Acres) died on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born on October 17, 1931 in Bluewell, he was a son of the late Howard Freeman and Martha Ayers Shrader. He was resident of Mercer County his entire life and was a faithful member of New Salem United Methodist Church. He was a retired truck mechanic and farmer. He was a US Army veteran where he served with the 97th Division, Company C Engineering Company, in France. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a UMWA member. He enjoyed his farm on Tabor Road and loved helping other farmers and friends with their farm work. He especially enjoyed working with his mules. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard “Poppa Dink” Shrader; sisters, Lucy Roark and Jenny Roark; half- brothers, Randy Hawkins and Junior Hawkins; and half- sisters, Cleda Watson and Della Shrader. Joe Robinette officiating. Burial will follow at the Terry Family Cemetery on Tabor Road, Bluefield, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be J.J. Moore, Oakey Booth, Richard Thomason, Mike Shrader, Ralph Mills and Calvin Roach. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Lawrence and George Cox. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
