Richard Samuel Mabry, 61, passed away surrounded by family at his home in Bluefield, VA Friday, September 1, 2017 after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Welch, WV, Rick was the son of the late Connie Samuel Mabry and Dorothy Lee Mabry. In addition to his parents Rick was preceded in death by his brother Randy Mabry. Rick was graduate of Welch High School and also Bluefield State College receiving his engineering degree. He was a devout Christian, business owner, athlete, musician, songwriter, hunter, fisherman, devoted husband, and proud father, but his greatest joy was found in the memories made with his precious granddaughters. He loved nothing more than being called papaw. Ricks deep affection for music will be remembered by all. He began guitar lessons at the age of 7 and began playing in various establishments at the young age of 12. He spent many years playing music professionally, traveling the east coast with his also talented wife, Pam with the bands Topflite and Sugarfoot. Rick also played with the Collegians and various other bands. Although Rick played guitar up until he passed, he ended his music career playing at Deliverance Temple Church for his Savior. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 43 years, Pamela Mabry of Bluefield, VA, his daughter Crystal Houchins and husband Travis of Bluefield, VA, his two beautiful granddaughters Abigail and Annabelle Houchins of Bluefield, VA, his closest uncle H.G. (Tank) Mabry of Hillsville, VA, niece Kayla Mabry of Morgantown, WV, special family friend Cola Honaker of Bluefield, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor David Kirby officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where pallbearers will be nephews.A special thanks to Dr. Rasi, Amy Alvis and office staff.
