RICHARD “GOOSE” GOOSENS
October 4, 1975 – February 6, 2022
Richard Goosens, 46, peacefully went to his Lord and Savior on February 6, 2022 at his home in Chula Vista, CA after suffering long illnesses. He is dearly loved by his Mom and Dad and will be loved and missed for as long as they shall live on this Earth.
During his youth he lived in Bluefield, WV where he was known as “Goose.” Goose was full of.…himself and had a wicked sense of humor. The stories he would tell could make a rock laugh. He was extremely loyal to his friends and families and would fiercely defend them, although, a fight or two may have broken out between them. After leaving this area, he worked at various seaports as a welder building ships. He became a strong man and earned the respect of his fellow workers. He was particularly protective of his mom. As he grew and matured, “Goose” eventually disappeared, but happily Richard’s humor remained; even during the worst times. In the last several years of his life, God transformed Richard. His only goal became serving the Lord in any capacity possible. He would spend hours every day praying and studying the Bible with his mom. While in multiple hospitals, he would go from room to room and minister to and pray with the other patients. He became a child of God that all Christians should strive to become.
He was predeceased by his grandparents: Mike and Ruth Doss of Worth, WV; Venoy and Margaret Owens of Bluefield, WV.
He is survived by his loving Mom and Dad, Brenda Doss Owens and Samuel Owens. Uncles: Jerry Doss and wife Wanda; Terry Doss and wife Susan. First cousins (more like sisters): Sherry Doss Chinsolo, husband Mike, and daughter Raychel; Becky Doss Scott, husband Mike, and daughters Amanda, Kayla, and Amber. Biological father: Robert Gary Goosens and half-siblings Michael, Barbara, and Crissy.
Richard is also loved and cherished by his second family, the Nashes: Frank and Diana Nash and their children Margie and Joe; Jeff and Debbie Nash and their sons JD and Mike. The Nashes: Frank, Jeff, JD, James, River, Mike, and Noah will serve as pallbearers.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Cravens & Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 25, 2022 with Rev. Jim Blevins and Pastor Randy Clark officiating, followed by graveside rites at Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton, WV. Special music to glorify the Lord will be provided by Richard’s close and dear friend, Carla Phillips. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the service begins.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial contribution to Crozier Baptist Church in Elkhorn, WV, New Salem Methodist Church on New Hope Road, WV, or Lifeline Church of God in Princeton, WV.
