Richard L. Bishop, Sr. (Dick), 84 of Bluefield WV passed away at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday December 29, 2017. Born in Richmond, Indiana he was the son of the late Gene and Catherine Bishop. In addition to his parents, he was reunited with his high school sweetheart and loving wife Angie whom were married 53 years before her passing in 2008. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Melissa Williams and great-granddaughter Kristen Williams. He served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was retired from the Bluefield Fire Department as a Lieutenant with 25 years of service. His coworkers knew him as “Flea”. He had a love of golf, bowling, and cars. He leaves behind 3 loving children Karen Bryant and husband Danny of West Liberty, KY, Cindy Smith and husband Bryan of West Liberty, KY, and Dickie Bishop and wife Misty of Narrows, VA. 4 grandchildren Raymond Brooks, Jr., Kevin Brooks, Sean Bishop, and Brittley Smith. 4 great grandchildren Colton Brooks, Kira Brooks, Davin Roberts, and McKenzie Honeycutt. Sister Joann Bishop, and a special friend Carolyn Buzzo. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Clinton Goad officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow at the Saint Luke Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wytheville where Bryan Smith, Danny Bryant, Scott Cravens, Donnie Gott, Glen Crews, and Johnny Buzzo will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Roscoe Lusk and Ted Cline.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-9PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Luke Lutheran Church 545 Saint Luke Rd. Wytheville, VA.
