Rev. James Alfred Rose, 73, of Powhatan, WV, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 13, 1947 in Freeburn, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Alfred and Margaret York Rose. James was a retired coal miner and retired minister and had a radio program in Welch where he preached the Gospel. James was a member of Longepoint Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Franklin, Norma Jean Wolford, and Loretta Gross; brothers, Darrell Jesse Rose, and Leonard Rose.
Those left to cherish James’ memory are his wife Wanda Lee Eastep Rose; sons, Rodney Rose of Tazewell, VA, and Chris (Lucia) Rose of WV; daughters, Teresa Auton of Princeton, WV, and Judy Stovall (Joseph) of Snow Camp, NC; brothers, Alan Rose and Clifford Rose, both of Michigan; sisters, Lois Prater of Michigan, Ruth Blankenship of Michigan, Wanda Rice of Tennessee, Mary Rose Goff Riffe of Beckley, WV, and Hope Gilliland of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A private funeral service for family will be conducted at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Nate Bertram officiating. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Memorial Park where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Rose family.
