R. Vance Hayes, 87, of Bluefield, WV went to his Eternal Home on Thursday, March 24, 2023. Born on June 6, 1935, he was a son of the late Ike and Avis Burks Hayes. Vance received Christ into his life as a young boy and was faithful to God. He was a founding charter member of Premier Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member for 70 years. He served the church in many capacities being a choir leader and a Sunday school teacher. Vance retired from The Welch Daily News after 40 years, working as the advertising manager. He also served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Claris Dean Blackburn Hayes; brothers, Jerome and Jerry; sisters-in-law, Betty Hayes, Darlene Hayes, Sclean Atha, and Phyllis Jones. Those left to cherish Vance memory are his brother, Tim Hayes; sisters-in-law, Alice Hayes, Wanda Bishop (Everett) and Sue Muncy (Charles) and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastor Randall Dority officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where nephews will serve as pallbearers. Full military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call one hour prior to services from 11:00-12:00. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Hayes family.
