Phyllis Jones

Phyllis J. Jones, 92, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022. She was born November 9, 1929 at Premier, WV in McDowell County. Her parents were Otis Blackburn and Nell Leftwich Blackburn. Phyllis was married to her loving husband, Marvin Jones for 40 years. They had five children: Patricia (Patsy) Sutterfield and Darrell, Bluefield, WV, Michael Jones and Darlene, Alexandria, IN, David Jones and Pam, Bluefield, WV, Leon Jones and Tina, Coalwood, WV, and Robert Jones and Lisa, Bluefield, WV.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four sisters, Patricia Blackburn, Claris Dean Hayes, Betty Hayes, and Sclean Atha and two brothers-in-law, Jerome Hayes and Charles Atha.

Phyllis is survived by two sisters, Wanda Bishop and husband, Everett of Bluefield, WV, and Sue Muncy and husband, Charles "Kelly" of Bluefield, WV; and brother-in-law, Vance Hayes of Bluefield, WV.

Phyllis was a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a housewife. She was born again and began preaching at the age of 16. She began to receive many invitations to preach. At the age of 17, she got her Missions Workers License of April 20, 1946 at Mullens, WV. It was signed by W.W. Carter, Conference Superintendent. She traveled throughout West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina preaching revivals and conducting Vacation Bible Schools. She had many co-workers in the ministry such as Sue Beavers, Sylvia Harvey Sexton, Betty Manual Atkinson, and Betty Hayes.

Phyllis and her husband pastored at Cornwall, Firebaugh Chapel, Cave Mtn., VA, War, Yukon, Coalwood and Premier, WV. She was a charter member of Premier Pentecostal Holiness Church but in recent years attended Point of Contact Ministries, Bluefield, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, August 1, 2022 at Point of Contact Ministries with Pastor Randall Dority and Dr. Eddie Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin, VA where grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as flower bearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Point of Contact Ministries, 1225 Lyndale Ave., Bluefield, WV. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Jones family.
