Patricia Carol O'Brien-Perfin

Patricia Carol O’Brien-Perfin, age 79, of Pulaski, Virginia; peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 3rd, 2019 in Marion, Virginia.

Born on August 25th, 1940 in Anawalt, West Virginia; she was the daughter of the late Lacy Patrick O’Brien and Cleo Webb-O’Brien. She had one sister, Doris Jean O’Brien-Martin, and two brothers, Lacy Patrick O’Brien II, and John Thomas O’Brien. She was married for 49 years to Donald Lee Perfin. She graduated in 1958 from Gary High School in Gary, West Virginia and attended Concord College in Athens, West Virginia. Later in life she was the incorporator and president of the Gary High School Coaldiggers Alumni Association Inc. She was retired from the Tug River Health Clinic in Gary, West Virginia where she served as the coordinator of the school and community based health promotion programs. She spent many years overseeing the association’s medical and dental services and health education and interventions to the population of McDowell County, West Virginia. She was also a resident of Pocahontas, Virginia for many years. In Pocahontas, she was vice president of the Pocahontas Historic Board of Directors; where she was responsible for plans to restore the famed Opera House of Pocahontas, Virginia. She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Pocahontas. She was of the Catholic faith and was very involved with the Saint Elizabeth of Holy Family Church in Pocahontas, Virginia and Our Lady of Victory Parish in Gary, West Virginia where she was head of the Catholic Youth Organization. She loved to spend time with her family, garden, and cook.

Survivors include: daughters, Daria Neal and husband Robert, of Pulaski, Virginia; Regina Perfin of Bluefield, West Virginia; and son, Frank “Rick” Perfin of Monroe, North Carolina. Granddaughter, Sara Perfin of Bluefield, West Virginia. Siblings, Lacy Patrick O’Brien II and wife Judith “Judy,” of Glade Springs, West Virginia and John Thomas O’Brien and wife Beverly of Gary, West Virginia. Nieces and nephews include Rhonda Vance and husband Kenneth “Mickey” of Bluefield, Virginia; Lacy Patrick III of Beckley, West Virginia; Seth O’Brien and wife Jairon of Roanoke, Virginia; Kim O’Brien-Clifton and husband Jarrell “JL” Clifton of Marlinton, West Virginia; Kelly Rae O’Brien-French and husband Kevin of Bedford, Virginia; Shane O’Brien and wife Stephanie, of Beckley, West Virginia. And great-niece, Meagan Vance-Stroud and husband Justin of Bluefield, Virginia.

She was predeceased by husband, Donald Lee Perfin of Bluefield, West Virginia; grandson, Michael Lee Epperson of Gary, West Virginia; sister, Doris Jean O’Brien-Martin of Bluefield, Virginia; aunt, Mamie O’Brien-Cooper of Anawalt, West Virginia; nephew, Patrick Kyle Martin of Indiana.

Service will be held Wednesday, May 08, 2019 at 1:30pm, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with Father Sebastian E. Devasya of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bluefield, West Virginia officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia where pallbearers will be: son, Frank “Rick” Perfin; nephew, Seth O’Brien; nephew-in-law, Justin Stroud; close family friends, Andrei Rudic of Blossburg, Pennsylvania, Chris Santoro of Davidson, North Carolina, and Scotty Riggins of Princeton, West Virginia.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 08, 2019 from 12:00pm until 1:30pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Reception will be held privately.
