Nancy Lee Godfrey

Nancy Lee Godfrey, 90, of Bluewell, WV, and formerly of Maybeury, WV received her Heavenly Wings on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at her daughter Theresa’s home.

Born on December 12, 1931 in Maybeury, she was a daughter of the late James (Jim) and Frances CaCammo Coppola. Nancy was a homemaker and married to Dutch for 72 years. She never met a stranger and her heart was full of love. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She was an exceptional wife, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother (Nina), great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt. She loved every minute she spent with her family. She lit up when her nieces and nephews spent time with her. She had many faithful and wonderful friends who she loved dearly. She graduated from Elkhorn High School where she was proud to be a cheerleader and Captain of the Basketball team. Nancy and Dutch were very proud to sponsor a Vietnamese refugee family along with their church in 1970’s until they could be reunited with their family in North Carolina. Nancy was an expert on Italian meatballs and potato salad that we all will miss.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Dutch” Godfrey; a grandson, Christopher Zande; brothers, August, Frank and wife Mae, Steve and wife JoAnne, Joe and wife Dorothy, Eugene and wife Louise and Ted Coppola; sisters, Elizabeth Musolin and husband Mike, Mary Hodges and husband Bill, and sister in law, Bonnie Coppola.

Those left to cherish her memories are: her son, James Vincent Godfrey and wife, Janie of Bluefield, WV; daughters, Patricia Zande and husband, Larry Sr. of Bluefield, WV, and Theresa Thomason and husband Willie of Bluefield, WV; 6 grandchildren: James Godfrey and wife Missy, Eddie Godfrey, Sr., Jason Thomason and wife Blaine, Larry Jr (Corianne Carver), Laura Taylor and husband Chris, Kara Zande (Wyatt Neal); 9 great grandchildren: Jolena Hill and husband Richard, James Godfrey, III, Eddie Godfrey, Jr. and wife Belle, Cameron Godfrey (Katie Trivett) and Coleson Godfrey, Tesla Spencer, and Clay Thomason and Analeigh Neal; 2 great grandchildren, Alaina and Eliona Godfrey; and two brothers Tommy Coppola and wife Dorothy of Honell, MI and Willie Coppola and wife Nina of Bluefield, WV.

The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus, PA-C Kim Matzel, Dr. Schor and his staff for the care and support given during this time.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the Powhatan Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Binny Mulackal officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends, prior to services at the church, from 11:00-12:00 PM.
