Mosie "Mike" Rocchetti, 90, of Bluefield WV, passed away March 19th, 2023 at his home.
Born in Crumpler WV, he was the son of Mariano Rocchetti and Maria Giulliani Rocchetti. He had been a resident of the Bluefield area for almost 70 years. He served in the US Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. He retired from Erwin Supply Company and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, stone masonry and working in his vegetable garden but music was, by far, his passion. He taught himself to play guitar, bass and was a mandolin virtuoso. He was a musician playing in several bluegrass bands throughout his life and had the privilege to play with the legendary father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffrey Scott Neal; and his siblings, Pietro (Pete) Rocchetti, Ada (Itha) Williams DeStafano, Yolanda (Eula) Craft Sardano, Sabatino (Sam) Rocchetti, Abramo (Abe) Rocchetti and Francisco (Frankie) Rocchetti.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Shumate Rocchettiof the home; a son Ricky Rocchetti (Linda) of Raleigh NC; daughters Lisa Rocchetti Neal (Donnie) of Springville VA and Tina Rocchetti of Bluefield; grandchildren, Shane Neal of King NC, Katie Rocchetti of Clearwater FL and Mikael (Max) Kovanen of Roanoke VA. He also had 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to his caregivers, Patience Carothers and Kristy Painter for the wonderful care. To Wendy Wellman and the remarkable staff at Amedysis and to Amber Miller RN and the absolutely amazing staff from the Home-Based Primary Care through the VA for their outstanding care and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1003 Wyoming Street, Bluefield WV with Father Sebastian DeVasya officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Inn Bluewell WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Pantry in memory of Mosie Rocchetti.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Rocchetti family.
