Milfred "Bud" Brice Powers

Milfred “Bud” Brice Powers, 90, of Princeton, West Virginia passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 after a short illness.

Bud was born on August 21, 1929 in Elkhorn, West Virginia to the late James Luther Powers and Virgie Alice Brewer Powers.

Bud was a good moral man who loved God, family and country. Bud was a hard worker and would go the extra mile for anyone in need. Bud accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior with the promise of eternal life. Bud served his country in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and had lots of stories to tell about his experiences. When Bud returned home from the service he went back to his former place of employment, Woodlawn Greenhouse. He spent many years working with vegetable plants and beautiful flowers. People would come from far and wide for advice on his expertise.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Gladys Anna Lee Powers; sisters, Eula Tiller, Della York, Lois Smith and Shirley Barton.

Bud is survived by his wife of 35 years Bonnie Osborn Byrd Powers of the home; daughters, Rhonda Roshelle Powers Biondi and husband Ted of Florida and Misty Dawn Powers Christian and husband Alvin of Bluefield, West Virginia; stepdaughter, Becky Byrd and companion Nathan Lively of Princeton, West Virginia; stepsons, Michael Byrd of Virginia, Rodney Byrd of Virginia and Bradley Byrd of Virginia. Grandchildren, Roxanne Reed and husband Drew, Christopher Finley, Gracie Finley; several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews and two sisters, Betty Jenkins and Joyce Stitt.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia at 2:00 pm with Rev. George Stamper officiating the service. Burial will follow at Belcher Cemetery in Coaldale, West Virginia where the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and family will be serving as pallbearers.

The Powers family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 12:00 pm (Noon) until 2:00 pm at the funeral home
