Melvin (Mitz) Prevento Sr., of 206 Elm St. Tazewell, VA passed away January 30, 2022, after a long illness. Born January 10, 1926, in Mohegan, West Virginia, he had made his home with his daughter Glenna Hale for the last 3 years. He grew up in Asco and Davy, West Virginia. His parents were Andy and Augustina Onogoramo Prevento who came here from Italy. Melvin proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in 82nd Airborne as a parachutist. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jackson, 9 brothers, three sisters, daughter Joy Delgrande, son Melvin Prevento Jr., and two grandchildren, Jimmy Riggs and Bucky Bunting. Survivors are Johnny Prevento and wife Bobbie of Princeton, WV, Mitchell (Dink) Prevento of Jacksonville, FL, Pat Bunting and Glenna Hale of Tazewell, VA. 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Eugene Prevento of Lynchburg, VA. He loved playing his guitar daily. He was also proud to be a member of Civil Air Patrol Bluefield, WV where he received his pilot license. He was a member of Family worship Center in Bluefield, WV where he played his guitar and sang with his companion Betty Wilcox. Graveside rights will be conducted on 2:00 PM Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Pastor Curtis Honaker officiating. There will be no public visitation.
