Melvin Larry Jenkins, Sr., 72, of Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.Born on August 24, 1945 in Pocahontas, VA, he was a son of the late Joseph Marshall and Lou Ada Jarvis Jenkins. He had been a resident of Bluefield and Bramwell for 50 years. He spent time growing up in Chicago where he joined the US Army. He served in Korea during the Vietnam War. He eventually reached the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged. He moved to Bluewell where he married Elizabeth Carol Frye and they had two children. He worked for A&T Pontiac for almost 40 years and enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and playing cards with his friends. He was loved by numerous family and friends. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; sisters, Marsha Sue Osborn and Retha Gail Jenkins. Survivors include his son, Melvin Larry Jenkins, Jr. of the home and a daughter, Kelly Christine Jenkins of Bristol, TN. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. George Stamper officiating burial will follow at Belcher Family Cemetery in Coaldale, WV. The Jenkins family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, December 07, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
