Melva Geraldine Workman

Melva Geraldine “Gerri” Workman, 87, of Brushfork Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on January 9, 2023 at her home.

Born on February 10, 1935 in McComas, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Grace Miles Sigmon. She had been a lifelong resident of Mercer County and was a retired cook at Bluefield College.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward Burnette, and her siblings, Kenny Sigmon, Cecil “Pug” Sigmon, Van Martin and Judy Kade.

Survivors include her husband, Chester Workman, Sr.; a son, Chester (Laura) Workman, Jr. of Bluefield; daughters, Evelyn Denise (Robert) Kirk of Bluefield, WV, and Kimberly Dawn Erskine of Bluefield, VA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Jerry McVey, Robert Kirk, Eddie Workman, Jerry Workman, Jeremy Davis, Jeff Sigmon, and Jeremy Workman serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call prior to services on Friday, from 10:00-11:00AM, at the funeral home.
