It is with great sadness that the family of Matthew Miller announces his passing after a long struggle with PTSD on Monday January 22nd, 2018 at the age of 29.
Matthew is survived by his mother Tammy Miller of Skygusty, father Roy Miller and sister Ashley of Skygusty, sister Kayla Thomas (Cederick) of Antioch, Ca, paternal grandparents Watt and Sue Miller of Skygusty, and one nephew Kellan Thomas of Ca. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles (especially Rick Casey), cousins, and close friends. Also his dearest friend Krista York of Harrogate, Tn and a very special person Jeannie Roberts and daughter Brynlee of Green Valley. Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal Aunt and maternal grandparents.
Matthew graduated from Mt.View High School in Welch, WV in 2007 and joined the US Army soon after. He was a SGT of the 3rd Platoon, Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 187 Regiment Rakkasans, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, KY. He was deployed overseas in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. After his 4 years in the US Army, Matt went to work for Patterson UTI Drilling Company. He was just recently promoted to derrickhand on Rig 278 in Pennsylvania.
Matthew loved to spend any of his free time in the mountains, whether it was hunting, fishing, cutting wood, riding 4 wheelers or just sitting on a ridge watching the beautiful sunsets. He found his peace there and his soul will roam those mountains for the rest of time. He touched so many lives in his short time here and he will be missed by each and every one.
There will be a viewing for family and friends on Thursday February 1, 2018 from 6-8pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home located in Bluewell, WV. The funeral will follow on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Michael Brooks, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Miller Family Cemetery in Auger Hollow, Skygusty where military honors will be conducted by the Iaeger VFW Post #1144.
