Mary Largen

September 7, 1940 — August 14, 2020

Mary Gray Mathis Largen, 79, of Bluefield, formerly of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020. The youngest child of the late David and Mildred Gray Mathis, Mary was born on September 7, 1940. She graduated from Trigg County High School and completed several business courses before marrying the late Teddy Ray Largen on March 2, 1963. While she worked some secretarial and retail jobs, Mary primarily was a homemaker and stayed busy transporting her sons to many youth sports practices and games when they were younger. She worked part-time and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She treasured her grandchildren and loved her role as “Boo” to them. She never failed to call family members on their birthday and she delighted in giving gifts to those she loved.

She was a member of Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield and enjoyed shopping, reading, working word puzzles, eating out with her friends, and keeping up with her grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, James Mathis, and two sisters, Doris Bobo and Barbara Kilgore.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Largen and wife, Ginger, of Abingdon, and Tim Largen and wife, Cynthia, of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Matthew Largen, Christopher Largen, Jackson Largen, and Emma Largen; two sisters-in-law, Sue Mathis of Cadiz, Kentucky and Lou Massey of Bassett, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, Virginia, with the Rev. Jim Kestner officiating.
