Mary Nell Jewell

Mary Nell Shoemaker Jewell, 89, passed away on Friday, August 16, at her home in Harmony, NC.

   She was born on July 4,1930 in Gary, WV to Carrie Elizabeth and Charles Robert Shoemaker. 

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Jewell, Sr., a daughter, Cheryl Jewell Flippo, and an infant son.  Also preceded by a brother, John Shoemaker and four sisters, Margaret Bowen, Bessie Chambers, Stella Yates, and Frances Fritz.

   Mary is survived by one sister, Joan Chambers of Elkton, MD, and six children,  Charles Jewell, Jr. and wife Kay of Edwardsville, IL; Anita Pratt and husband Eugene of Monroe, NC; Pamela Jewell and Cathy Byerly of Mocksville, NC; Gina Woods and husband Don of Lexington, NC; Terry Jewell of Charlotte, NC; Rick Jewell and Teresa Johnson of Mooresville, NC; and one "adopted" son, Steven Higginbotham and wife Tammy of Harmony, NC; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

   Mary was a homemaker and resided in Gary, WV until 1977.  She then moved with her family to Skyview Lake in Harmony, NC, where she resided until the time of her death.

   Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, on Thursday, August 22, at 12:00 Noon. Friends may call prior to services, from 11:00-12:00.  She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Charles, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.

   Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Statesville, NC or the Alzheimer's Association.
