Mary Elizabeth Higgins

Mary Elizabeth Shumate Higgins, 82, of Tolosa Street, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born on May 8, 1938 in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Elisha and Sallie Elizabeth Burton Shumate. She is a member of the Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church. She attended public schools in Bluefield and was a 1957 graduate of Beaver High School. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Anna Ruth Fisher and Evelyn Martin; and 2 brothers, Alfred and Ralph Shumate.

Survivors include her husband, C. Arvil Higgins of the home; daughter, Cynthia (Jeff) Atwell of Bluefield, WV, and two brothers, Kenneth D. Shumate of Bluefield and Glen Shumate of Pulaski, VA.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Rev. Randy Sargent officiating. Burial will follow with family members serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at the service time.
