Mary Pruitt Belcher, 94, of Gretna, VA, went to meet her Savior on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her residence.
She was born on March 20, 1927 to the late Starling Pruitt and Mattie Lyons Pruitt.
Mrs. Belcher lived in the Bluefield area for most of her life and then in Rocky Gap. For the past ten years, she made her home in Gretna, Va. with her daughter's family.
After working at Western Union during WWII, she married E.M. (John) Belcher on his return from the war. He predeceased her in 2014. During their 61 years of marriage, she was primarily a homemaker. She was known for her hard work and produced a large garden each year, canning, freezing and sharing its bounty.
She was a member of Williams Chapel Church of Christ in Rocky Gap, faithfully assisting her husband in his ministry.
When she became a Christian, Mary devoted her life to being a faithful servant to Jesus. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. However, her greatest talent was seeing what needed to be done and promptly doing it. She cooked, cleaned, painted, repaired broken things, mowed grass, transported neighbors and taught others to do the same. She was a genuine Christian.
She is survived by a son, Dennis (Butch) Belcher and his wife, Rita, of North Tazewell, Va. and a daughter, Ronda B. Owen and her husband, Larry, of Gretna, Va.; six grandchildren, Marty, Randy (April), and Ryan (Amanda) Belcher, Lucas and Landis (Wendy) Owen and Lydia 0. David (Drew); ten great-grandchildren, D.J. Sydney, Wes, Kendall, Cade, Adia, Luke, Emmy and Elly, Belcher and Delia David; one brother, Charles Pruitt and one sister, Lucille Lusk.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, S.G. Pruitt and three sisters, Boyd Pruitt, Margaret Goodwin and Bonnie Zeoli.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell by Minister Larry Owen. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM . Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.
