Martin Vaughn, Jr.

Martin Vaughn, Jr., 71, of Durham, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 in Durham, NC.

Born on July 18, 1948 in Eckman, WV, he was a son of the late Martin Vaughn and Madorah French Vaughn. Martin was a proud member of the US Air Force, serving from 1966-1972. Afterwards, he began his career with General Telephone Co. of the Southeast, in Bluefield, WV. He studied Computer Science at NC State University and retired from Verizon Telephone Company in 1999. He loved all wildlife, feeding deer, birds and squirrels daily. Martin loved wood working, building beautiful pieces of furniture for his home and bluebird houses for his yard. He worshiped with Mt. Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was a dog lover, having three much loved companions in his lifetime: Winston, Buddy and Coco.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mildred (Millie) Vaughn Hendricks and Helen Vaughn Foster.

He is lovingly survived by 2 sisters: Barbara (Bobbie) Vaughn Butt, Summerville, SC; Gloris (Cookie) Vaughn Lafferty and Husband Carl Lafferty, Durham, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service for family will be conducted on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with his brother-in-law, Carl Lafferty officiating.

Friends may call on Friday from 10:15-10:45 AM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
