Lucille Steele

Ms. Lucille Mildred Whittaker Steele, 83, of Vallscreek, WV, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Mercer Nursing and Rehab Center in Bluefield.

Born on March 24, 1937 at Whittaker Ridge in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Hobert McKinley Whittaker and Fannie Bell Crockett Whittaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 siblings; her husband, Ray Steele in 2010 and her son, Rayford Shane Steele, also in 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy S. (Sammy) Miano of Rock, WV and Marie Conn of North Tazewell, VA; two sons, Wade Steele of Hartwell, WV and Matthew Shannon Steele of Christiansburg, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Samantha Miano, Jessica Sinclair, Allie Steele, Kelly Rasnake, Victoria Steele,  and Donald Steele; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Frankie Miller of Dublin, VA and Shirley Puckett of Claypool Hill, VA.

Lucille was a homemaker who loved working in her garden, knitting and crocheting and she loved her flowers and cooking for her family. She was a great cook.

As per her wishes, she will be cremated and will be spread near her childhood home on Whittaker Ridge at a later date.
