Larry Elwood Brown Steptoe, Sr.

January 9, 1950 — November 25, 2017

Deacon Larry E. Steptoe, Sr. of Bluefield, Virginia, age 67, passed away Saturday November 25th, 2017 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Born on January 9th, 1950 in Tip Top, Virginia, Larry was the son of the late William Payne Steptoe and Kathleen Brown Steptoe.

 

Larry was a former employee of Paper Supply Company and a retiree of Lowe’s Home Improvement. In the late 80’s, Larry AKA Cebo was Vice President of the Cobra Motorcycle Club, where he rode proudly with his club brothers and formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Larry also enjoyed fishing and served on the Board of Directors at Falls Mills Dam as the Devotions Leader and was called “Preacher” by many. A few words used to describe Larry were: unique, funny, bold, tough, and cool, to name few.

 

Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Leda Steptoe, his two daughters, Jasmine and Alexis Steptoe, and two sons, Larry Edwards, Larry Steptoe, Jr., and six grandchildren.  Larry was the eldest of thirteen siblings, and preceded in death by two sisters, Florence “P-Nut” and Willie Mae. Surviving siblings include: William “Henry”, John (Renee), James “Fuzzy”, Anthony “Smirk”, Eugene “Weenie”, Major, Juanita “Wanda”, Wayne “Adam” (Tina), David (Cheryl), Michael (Amanda), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and one aunt Barbara Woods.

 

Home going services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday December 2nd, in the chapel of Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm prior to the service. A military burial ceremony conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the Thompson Family Cemetery in Tip Top, Virginia. There will be a repass immediately after the burial at Faith Center Church at 102 Federal Street Bluefield, WV.
