Kevin Wade Sargent Sr.

June 20, 1974 — October 26, 2024

Bluefield, WV

Kevin Wade Sargent Sr., many formerly knew him as “Doobie” uncle Kev and pawpaw but he was best known as dad. He graced this world with his presence on June 20, 1974, in Princeton, WV. He departed from this life on October 26, 2024, Bluefield, WV, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories woven through a life lived fully and passionately.

From the very start, Kevin was a force of nature—strong, independent, hardworking—in every sense of the phrase. He was the embodiment of a lover and a fighter, a man who approached life with exceptional intelligence and humor. With a spirit that could light up any room, he was known for his infectious laughter, his love of singing and dancing, and his ability to fix anything that had a motor. He tirelessly dedicated 23 years to working as a devoted coal miner, while also honing his skills as a mechanic and electrician. Kevin’s talents were truly boundless; if something needed fixing, he would roll up his sleeves and dive right in, a testament to his resourcefulness and determination.

Kevin was a passionate learner, gifted with a fierce love for music, science, and history. His evenings spent with his kids and wife singing along to old rock. He embraced life to the fullest, indulging in hobbies like horseback riding, four wheeling, camping, and spending precious moments working on cars with his cherished son, Kevin Jr. His gentle artistic side blossomed through drawing, showcasing his multifaceted personality which was also a trait he shared with his son.

At the heart of Kevin's life were his beloved family members, whom he adored without reservation. His former devoted wife of 25 years, Heather Marie Williams Sargent, shared 32 remarkable years together, a partnership characterized by unconditional love. Together, they raised an extraordinary family that brought Kevin immense pride—his children and grandchildren were his proudest accomplishments, cherished above all.

Kevin has left behind a legacy in the laughter and love of his adoring son, Kevin Wade Sargent Jr.; his cherished daughters, Patience Marie Sargent Gardner, McKenzie Paige Sargent Howerton. And Olivia Diane Sargent which he loved dearly and devoted himself to in his later years  ; his beloved son-in-laws, Tyler Dwayne Gardner and Benny Junior Howerton; his doting grandchildren, Kennedy Marie Gardner and Bentley Junior Howerton. He was an amazing father and an extraordinary grandfather. Each of them carry a piece of him in their hearts, a reflection of the warmth and joy he brought into their lives.

He is mourned deeply by his beloved beautiful mother, Janet Delight Presley, and his devoted brothers, Darrison Samuel Sargent and Barry Evans Osborne, Justin Bryce Presley, alongside his sisters, Shawna Nadine Tiller, Denise Yvonne Browning. An abundance of nieces and nephews that cherish the moments they spent with him. Kevin holds a place in their hearts that will never fade, formed by the love they shared.

In the quiet corners of their memories, his family remembers him alongside those who have passed on, such as his dear daughter Branda Mae Delight Basham, admired brother Jason Dwight Osborne, whose absence is felt keenly, as well as his father, Virgil Samuel Sargent, whose love in life was unwavering. The love for his grandson, Jensen Edward Gardner, remains a poignant reminder of the bonds that transcend this life.

As the sun sets on this chapter, we gather to honor Kevin’s legacy. Visitation will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, on November 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev.
