Jonathan Michael Surratt, 35, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, April 04, 2019 at his residence after a short illness.
Jonathan was born on Thursday, April 14, 1983 in Charleston, West Virginia to Thomas E. “Tommy” Surratt and Karen Snow Surratt. Jonathan moved to Tennessee in 1995 and attended the Church of the City in Franklin, Tennessee. He was a graduate of the Family Christian Academy and of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Jonathan was employed as a supervisor by International Logistics in Nashville, Tennessee. Jonathan was an accomplished writer, musician and arranger. He began playing drums in Bluefield where his maternal grandfather led worship. Jonathan’s first recording was with his paternal grandfather in Nashville. He played drums for the Belmont University Jazz Big Band, Franklin Christian Church and various Nashville based bands. He was involved with arranging projects with the Newsboys, Ricky Skaggs, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and Jeffery Wells. Jonathan had a strong faith in Jesus and a heart of compassion. One example was going to Sri Lanka for Tsunami relief, with New River Fellowship in Franklin, Tennessee. He loved his family and friends dearly.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Cecil Surratt and maternal grandfather D.L. “Lee” Snow.
He is survived by his Parents, Thomas E. “Tommy” and Karen Surratt of Columbia, Tennessee; brother, Christopher Surratt and wife Kristen of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Kristen Surratt of Nashville, Tennessee and Bethany Surratt and fiancé Josiah Dunham of Nashville, Tennessee. Paternal grandmother Ruth Surratt of Bluewell, West Virginia and Maternal grandmother Delores Snow of Bluefield, West Virginia.
Funeral service will be held for Jonathan on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield (Bluewell), West Virginia with Rev. Danny Scott officiating his service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia where Christopher Surratt, Matt Snow, Duane Snow, Matt Sutphin, Josiah Dunham and Josh Hamilton will be serving as pallbearers.
The Surratt family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of his service at the funeral home.
