John Douglas Yates

John Douglas Yates, 77, of Ballard, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the White Sulphur Springs Center. Born on January 25, 1947 in Nemours/Bluestone he was a son of the late John David and Lottie Pearl Rose Yates. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a retired mechanic. He was a hard working and kind-hearted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Haynes, and brothers in law, Dennis Smith and Harold Testerman; and a grandson John David Xavier Yates. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Jane Haville Yates of the home; daughters, Rebecca Jane Yates (Charles), Lorrie Anne Thorsby (Tim); son, John Douglas (Annette) Yates, II; 7 grandchildren, Amber Fountain and family, Joshua Taylor and family, Justin Taylor and family, Joseph Tabor and family, Kimberly Tabor and family, Leah Hennessy and family; Seth Yates and family; 27 great grandchildren; and sisters, Sue Smith, Sharon Testerman, and Sandra Alexander; and 15 nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
