John Henry Finley

John Henry Finley, 85, of Bluefield, WV, passed away on June 27, 2024 at the Bower's Hospice House in Beckley.

Born on May 22, 1939, he was a son of the late Carl W. Finley, Sr. and Frankie Mickels Finley. After retiring from being a HVAC technician in Sterling, VA, he had been a resident of Bluefield for the last 21 years where he met the love of his life, Ruby, who passed in 2023. He instantly became family to her children and grandchildren, especially Amy and Greg who he treated as daughter and son. He loved and had a great relationship with his grandsons Alex and Jordan and his great grandson Tucker came along in 2019 and we cannot say how much John loved him. He was known around the area as the lawnmower man as he spent most of his time fixing mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws and many other things for local residents. He enjoyed going to flea markets, yard sales, and goodwill stores. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Jr. at his shop. He would spend most evenings watching WWE wrestling, cartoons and "Two and a Half Men". He loved to eat out and make chicken alfredo. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy; sister, Evelyn Martin; and brother, Earl Finley. 

Left to cherish his memory are Amy and Greg Mooney of Bluefield, WV; grandsons, Alex Mooney of Huntington, WV, and Jordan (Hannah) Mooney of Bluefield, WV; and 2 great grandsons, Tucker and Trace Mooney; brothers, David M. Finley, Carl W. Finley, Jr., Walter "Smiley" Finley and a sister, Lorraine Lester; and a great friend, Robert Taylor. He also leaves behind his two canine companions, Lizzy and Charlie. 

Joint funeral services along with his brother will be conducted on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastor Randy Clark officiating.

Friends may call prior to services, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
