James Howard Workman, Sr., 85, of Matewan, passed away on September 16, 2019.
Born on June 18, 1934, he was a son of the late Fred and Mary Hart Workman. He had been a resident of Red jacket for 49 years and was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the US Marines, serving in Korea.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Belcher Workman; and a granddaughter, Lacosta Workman.
Survivors include sons, James Howard Workman, Jr. and Dwayne Workman; daughters, Bernice Varney and Carnetta Hopkins; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and sister, Dorothy Baldwin.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Brenda Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Belcher the Cemetery in Welch.
