James “Jim” Edwards Reed Sr, 67 of Princeton was called home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday May 29, 2018 at the VA hospital in Beckley. Mr. Reed was born on November 12, 1950 and was a son of John D. Reed and Carrie Louise Taylor. He was preceded in death by both parents as well as a brother, Larry Reed.
Mr. Reed graduated from Bramwell High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps where he fought in the Vietnam war. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Award, 2 Purple Hearts and 4 Combat ribbons. He enjoyed fishing, loved cook-outs and spending time with his granddaughters.
Mr. Reed was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by daughters Carrie and husband Darryl Christian of Camp Creek, WV who was by his side during his battle with cancer and Kimberlee and husband Brian Baer of Purcelleville, VA. Two granddaughters whom he adored: Chelsea Brummet and husband Dean of Bluefield and Jesse Atwell of Camp Creek, WV. And a brother, Danny Reed and wife Sharon of Montcalm, WV.
A private memorial service for the family will be conducted on Friday June 1, 2018 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. The United States Marine Corps will be conducting services at both the funeral home and graveside. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 1 pm at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at 5550 Bagging Plant Road, Dublin, VA 24804 and is open to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Carrie is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery wreath fund. You may contact the cemetery directly at 540-674-6893. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
