James Norman Pennington, 83, of Princeton, WV went to be with his Lord and Savior November 23, 2022. Born December 15, 1938, in Premier, WV, he was a son of the late George Washington Pennington and Nellie Turpin Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl, Ed, Elaine, Warren, Walt, Garnett, Gale, and Jess Pennington. He graduated from Welch High School in 1957 and he served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1965. He was employed by Purity Baking Company for 12 years before opening Pennington’s Little Green Markets in Big Four, WV and Roderfield, WV which he owned and operated for 32 years. Jim was a devout Christian, Elder and Treasurer at Memorial Church of Christ in Princeton. Jim was a devoted husband and father. He loved his family and church family more than anything. Jim also served as caretaker of Iaeger Memorial Cemetery from 1972 until 2022. Upon retirement, Jim loved to wholesale flowers and pumpkins, meet and talk with new people.
Those left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife of 55 years, Penny Hopkins Pennington; daughter, Tamathea (Tambo) Warner of Green Valley; son, Jami Pennington and wife, Sarah of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren, Michael Warner, Jessica Northrup and husband, Bob, Sydney Pennington and fiancé, Tyler Brewster, and Laine Pennington; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Aiden, and Storm Warner, Peyton and Titan Northrup, and Ellie Brewster; siblings, John Pennington and wife, Shirley of Roderfield, WV, and Shirley Cline of Princeton, WV; many nieces and nephews also survive. And beloved friend and employee Michael Kennedy.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Princeton Community Hospital, Fresenius Kidney Care in Bluefield and Princeton, Stonerise Nursing Home, and the Bluefield and Princeton Rescue Squad.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, November 28, 2022, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield where Michael Warner, Bob Northrup, Jeff Branham, Johnny Gail Pennington, Clinton McCloskey, Andy Green will serve as pallbearers. Laine Pennington, Andrew Warner, and Aiden Warner will serve as junior pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, a non-profit organization, P.O. Box 23, Roderfield, WV 24881.
