James Robert Hanshaw, 64, of Brushfork, WV finished his “Journey of Faith” and gained his Heavenly reward on September 30, 2021. Born November 13, 1956, he was a resident of McDowell County for 50 years before moving to Mercer County. He was a retired McDowell County school bus driver, where he met many wonderful co-workers, teachers, and students of whom many became lifelong friends. He gave his life to Christ in 1981 and remained a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord, and tried to witness about the goodness of God to everyone he met. He and his wife and two daughters sang in several counties in WV at many different churches and events in their gospel singing group “Journey of Faith.” He got such enjoyment in singing with his family for the Lord. He also got great enjoyment out of being a member of the choir at Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork, WV.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin R. Hanshaw, and his mother, Elizabeth “Libby” Hanshaw. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Sharon L. Hanshaw, his daughters Aimee Bolen and husband who was a special son in law who he considered to be a son, Dustin Bolen, of Princeton, WV and Ginger Sorah Hanshaw of Bluewell, WV. Four grandchildren, Kaylee Reed, Jaelyn Cox, Jay Reed, Carlie Hazzard. One brother Randy Hanshaw and wife Diana or Roderfield, WV. One brother and sister in law who God blessed him with over 44 years ago Gerry Griffey and wife Darlene of South Holston, TN who were more like his brother and sister. Brother in laws Walton England and wife Patty, Keith England and companion Angela, and Jerry England and wife Lolita. Two sister in laws, Diane Terry and Heather England. He had many nieces and nephews that will cherish his memory as well.
Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV on October 4th, 2021. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm with services beginning at 2:00 pm. Pastor David Kirby of Deliverance Temple Church and Pastor Joey Wright of Divine Hope Ministries will be officiating. The family has chosen to play a special song that Jim and his family sang and recorded, Winner Either Way, and also a song picked out by his daughters Scars in Heaven. Jim would be overwhelmed at all the love and support that was shown on social media and the outpouring of prayers from his family and friends. He would be thankful that you were all a part of his “Journey of Faith.”
