James Shanklin Carter

April 14, 1945 — July 6, 2020

James Shanklin Carter, 75, of Princeton, WV, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.  Born April 14, 1945, James was a son of the late Paul and Hattie Nash Carter.  James lived in Princeton for forty-four years. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam, had retired from Lowes and the coal mines, and was a  member of the Church of Christ in Springville, VA. 

 

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Blankenship Carter of the home; son, Lee Carter of Bakersville, NC; two daughters, Sonja Regan and husband, Mike, of Beckley, WV, and Shanel Beavers and husband, Kipp, of Bluefield, WV; brother, Jack Carter of Tazewell, VA; four sisters, Betty French of VA, Margaret Medlin of NC, Priscilla Leedy of Bluefield, WV, and Maryellen Miles of Rustburg, VA; and eight grandchildren.

 

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2020 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Minister Tony Reed Officiating.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens where family and friends will serve as pallbearers and the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.cravens-shires.com.
